A SPLASH OF PORN

One of the greatest victories I’ve seen at work in my life is the eviction of the three-fold powerful forces that almost choked me: Pornography, Masturbation and Lesbianism. My understanding of the finished works of Jesus opened my eyes to know the principles behind the daily victories in the soul realm.

But there is a pertinent lesson I want to share which may be beneficial to one or two persons who will read this article.

When I began to understand who I was in Christ and the fact that He had destroyed the power that kept me in bondage to sin by reason of the cross and I began to confess my faith and my identity in Christ, I saw great changes. It seemed like the more I placed my trust in what Christ has done, even during the periods when I slipped, the stronger the desire to live right. I really don’t know how to explain this. But it works. God’s word explains this better:

…I pray that your hearts may be enlightened in order that ye may know his great incomparable great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength that he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead…Ephesians 1:18

You cannot trust in a power you know nothing about.

What I had battled for years began to give way. Weeks past and as I stayed with renewing my mind, my Christian life began to take a smooth ride.

But one evening, I found myself watching those repulsive videos again. Guilt came down on me like a thick cloud. Where did this splash come from. But then because I havd learnt not to be overcome by guilt, I lay on my bed, sad wondering what could have gone wrong. It was that day I knew that the Holy Spirit does not leave us when we err. He is there showing us what to do right, nudging us towards the life of the Spirit. That day, I learnt one important lesson.

The people that surround you contribute greatly to preventing splashes of porn from soiling our soul.

Again, remember addiction is controlled in our soul realm where our emotions, mind and will lies…Your spirits carry the new nature but for your soul to connect the life of your spirit to your body, the renewal of your mind must occur. That’s why the easiest way to have those splashes is by disconnecting your soul from the spirit and this comes when we starve our minds of God’s word.

I have discovered that the easiest way to get rekindled with desire to renew your mind is by surrounding yourself with an assembly of people who love to talk and share God’s revealed word.

You cannot chat and sit with people who stir up sensual pleasure in you. Of course, they may have good intentions. Sex education and all…but you know how these things affect you.  During the healing process, there are ordinary things you can’t do which others can comfortably handle.

If you have a fiancĂ©e who is helping you through this healing process, you may have to put off talks about the wedding night and research on spicing up sex life and ’30 steps for an effective romantic session’  ..at least until those images are swept clear…

Apart from personally studying the word, connect with friends who are passionate about the Word. Nothing kills addiction like a true fellowship seasoned with grace.

You’ve got to stop playing religion and seek intimate relationship with Christ. If your church isn’t helping your spiritual growth, what use is it staying stuck there and struggling. Find a suitable ‘hospital’ where your soul will be adequately treated within the body of Christ.

The assembly you attend, the friends you communicate with on a regular basis, are they helping you grow? Can you see visible transformation in your life? Playing loyalty and seeking to please men will only keep you moving in the same circle.

Let God lead you to that place of refreshment. Stay clear of relationships that pull you back in.

Finally, don’t take the guilt trip if ever you slip(I hope you do not slip). It’s a waste of time. Merely confessing your identity with Christ and Christ’s finished work is not be enough. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying the finished work isn’t perfect. It is. But even within the covers of the finished work is the place of listening to the Holy Spirit and allowing Him teach you the right thing to do.

Grace will teach you to avoid the triggers, to not trust in good intentions, to renew your mind consistently, to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, to rest, to trust, to hope.

Even though for many months you’ve stayed clear from that addictive tendencies, don’t trust in yourself. Keep your eyes continually fixed on Jesus. Let the Word continually wash you.

…Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken to you…John 15:3

…that He might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing of water by the word…Ephesians 5:26

  1. Please how does this confession of ones identity in Christ really help/work. I've always believed that once one accepts Christ, he stops sinning as he is empowered to live for God. It worked for me in all other areas except this so that I sometimes feel as though I've been mocking God. I'm just so tired of falling and rising, promising and failing… Its sad, painful and extremely annoying. Thanks

  2. Sammy, the life of faith is a world different from our feelings. You feel you are mocking God by confessing who you are in Christ but God sees trust and dependence on Him. of course, if you could deal with your situation, would you have continued in that act? God sees that even though you have not seen what you want to see in your life, you recognise that He is still your father in the midst of it all. Scripture says we overcome the devil by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony.

Our testimony is what God says about us in His word. Examples; 'He that has started this work in you will complete it' 'He that believes on me will never perish.'You have not received the spirit of bondage to fear again but a spirit whereby you can shout 'Abba Father.' We make these confessions to keep reminding ourselves of the work Christ has done for us even though we are yet to see manifestations. The just shall live by faith implies that as you continually bring your struggles to God with full trust in Christ to bring you to a point where the actions of sin becomes alien to you, you'll find out that His supernatural power will begin to work in you. So in the end, it will not be because of what you did (your promises) but on what Christ has already done.

Secondly, on the issue of a person accepting Christ and being empowered to live for God, I must say that, that is exactly how God planned it. When we received Christ, we are empowered to live for God. However, you must understand that man is a tripartite being. He is made up of the Spirit, soul and body. The change that happened occurred in your spirit. That's why your spirit at salvation is perfect. However, your soul and body didn't have that experience. This is why after salvation, it is your responsibility to renew your mind to bring it in line with what your new life in the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 3:18 (amp) Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:23 talks much about renewing your mind(also called your soul). When your mind is renewed, Christ dominates, Your soul will begin to work in line with the new nature in your spirit which will influence your body to act Christlike. With the power you have received when you accepted Christ, bring your body and soul to align with your spirit where you new nature resides. But how can you know how to do this if you do not regularly feed on the word. what I'll suggest is for you to concentrate on developing your walk with Christ. Feed regularly on God's word, trust in Him to transform you into the image of Christ and become best friends with the Holy Spirit. His word is clear on this. If we walk in the spirit, we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
