10 POWERFUL SCRIPTURES TO PRAY FOR YOUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Some months back, I read one of Kenneth Hagin’s books. I can’t remember the title now. But in that book, I was challenged when he wrote about how for many years, he prayed over one particular verse in the book of Ephesians. It was a scripture where Paul asked God to grant unto the Ephesians the Spirit of wisdom and understanding in the knowledge of God.

According to him, he began to see the results of that prayer as God opened his eyes to deep unimaginable truths in His Word. Many of us are beneficiaries of that answered  prayer. I can’t begin to talk about how much enlightenment into God’s word I have received from some of his books.

Asking God for material things is good but our prayer requests should not just surround what we can eat and what we can wear. We should be concerned for our spiritual growth which brings greater satisfaction than earthly pursuits.

There are lots of scriptures that you can draw prayer requests from but I want to share 10 out of those scriptures that I have begun to include in my devotion.

1. Lord, I ask that you will open my eyes of understanding, that I may see the exceeding greatness of your power in my life. Cause me to walk in the light of the workings of your mighty power available to me by reason of my union in Christ- Ephesians 1: 19

2. Your words says, they that hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Because Christ is my righteousness, I ask that you cause a deep hunger to know you more. Lord Jesus, it is you alone that satisfies. Create in me an appetite and a heart that seeks after you. As the deer pants for streams of living water, let my soul daily pant after you- Matthew 5:6

3. I ask oh Lord that you will give unto me the spirit of wisdom and understanding in the knowledge of you. Help me to grow in you day by day- Ephesians 1: 17

4. Dear Lord, empower my inner man according to the riches of your glory. I ask that you will strengthen me with might through your Spirit. in Jesus name- Ephesians 3:16

5. Oh Lord, Let the fruit of righteousness blossom through me. I ask that my life will be filled with the fruits of righteousness that comes by Jesus Christ, my Lord – Philippians 1:11

6. Holy Spirit, reveal to me the things that have been prepared for me. Show me those deep things concerning my life and future. I shall fulfill the purpose for which you have created me – 1 Corinthians 2:9,10

7. I declare that sin shall not have dominion over me because I am under grace. I ask that the grace of God will overflow my life today. I will walk in righteousness. I receive the grace to say No to Sin today –  Romans 6: 14

8. Let my life bring honour to you. Let people see me and be drawn to Jesus. In my conversation, my conduct, my comportment, let only Jesus be glorified- 2 Thessalonians 1:11 NLT

9. I am tired of walking in my own flesh. I surrender to your will Oh Lord. Give me the grace to continually walk in the Spirit. I bring to naught every thing that seeks to distract me from following after you. Today, I choose to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit as He leads and directs my life.  Galatians 5:16

10. Direct my heart into a full understanding and expression of your love. Help me to understand the height, depth and length of your love. Let the love of Christ continually fill my life. May the outworking of this love spread to everyone I meet. –Ephesians 3:18

In Jesus we pray. Amen.

Do you have any scripture you want to add to this list. I look forward to reading them in the Comment below.

    1. Exactly Raphael, there is nothing sweeter than praying aright. I believe every time we pray in line with the written word of God, we pray according to His will.

  1. Honestly you are God sent. This morning I was asking God for Scriptures pertaining to intimacy with Him. I pray most of these above though I've stacked for some time now. I have some additions.
    Colossians 1:9-14
    Isaiah 50:4
    Psalm 90:12
    James 1:5
God bless you Ife for reminding me.
