Few years ago, I was the chief custodian of worry. If the devil were to give an award for the most worrisome human in 2011, my name would definitely be mentioned. I worried about everything. It stole my joy, my peace, and at a point my communion with God.
You know what worrying did to me? It messed up my emotions. I became desperate and full of fear. I was the lady with bad moods. Joy was so far away from my life.
I remember one Saturday morning still in that year, I locked myself up in my room, crying. Why? I was worried about my future, who to marry, what career to settle for…everything bothered me.
I really wish I knew what I know now. I regret that I didn’t enjoy that phase of my life because I was busy struggling and stressing myself over something God already had answers to.
I am different now. It isn’t that I’m not faced with worry from time to time, but I have learnt how to deal with it. I have learnt to stay in God’s rest where peace and joy dwells. I have learnt to trust God for the future and leave every care at his feet. I know you can too.
God will not work as long as you keep worrying over the situation. It was until I came to a place of rest that I began to see the manifestation of God in my life.
But getting into that place of rest takes labour because the devil will do everything possible to fill your mind with worrisome thoughts. Even when you succeed in shutting him up, he’ll still come again.. He never gets tired. You also must not get tired of labouring to stay in the place of rest. I’ll show you how I have been able to do that. But first let me point out something.
Look at this scripture:
But Noah found grace in the sight of God. Genesis 6:8.
Do you know that original translation for Noah is rest?
…But rest found grace in the sight of God.
There are things you will not receive from God until your soul is at rest. As long as your self-effort is at the forefront, Grace will not flow. Whoever has entered God’s rest has ceased from his works. Very clear. He works, you rest.
How did I come to the place of rest? How have I been able to maintain a life of peace and joy even as I await the manifestation of God’s promise in my life.
1. Like I explained in my post, Trusting while you wait, I aggressively respond to the negative thoughts that come into my mind. I am at alert always.
Let me use a general example.
Thought: All your mates are married, you are the only one left. Will you ever get someone to settle down with.
Response: God is working it out for me and while he works, I’ll keep loving him. His plans for me are for good and not for evil.
Thought: There are no jobs in Nigeria. In fact the unemployment rate has increased o. Remember that man in your church that has been jobless for almost five years.
Response: I’m going to get a job. God will work things out for me. His promises for me are yea and amen.
Sometimes it’s a back to back something. As it comes, you fire back. Don’t let those thoughts settle in your heart.
As fear comes, respond with faith. You may have to do it again and again. Sometimes, you may forget to throw those thoughts out and instead indulge them. But as soon as you realize that you have entertained worry, get it out quickly. With time, you’ll get used to flushing it out as quickly as possible.
2. I pray in the Spirit. Once I discover that I’m fidgeting about something, I switched to tongues. I can’t begin to explain how much peace I have received from doing this. An unexplainable peace just settles in my heart.
3. I declare what I want to see manifest in my life. This works greatly. Remember the finished works of Christ settled everything for you? All you have to do is walk in the reality of what has already been given to you. Whatever it is, speak out what God says about the situation and say it as if it has already happened.
Are you confused about making right decisions?
Tell yourself, I can make the right decision because I am led by the Spirit. I have the mind of Christ so I know what to do.
Do you need wisdom in certain areas of your life?
Christ is made to you wisdom. Because you are in Christ, the treasures of wisdom is at your disposal.
Is it healing you seek?
By his stripes you are healed.
Are you struggling with any form of sin?
Sin shall not have dominion over me! He was made sin for me so that I can be the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Battling with generational and ancestral issues?
I have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. I am seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Because my life is hidden in Christ and Christ crushed every power of darkness, nothing can harm me.
If you have to say this a hundred times a day, go ahead. Let your mind recognize what is in your spirit. This is spiritual warfare. Taking charge of your mind is where the real battle is. You will begin to see the manifestation at work in your life.
4. I spend time meditating on the scriptures. This helps me to connect with the Holy Spirit so I can hear what he has say to me per time.
5. Fasting. Remember, you do not fast to compel God to attend to your worries. It doesn’t work. Rather, fasting helps to keep your emotions under control so that your mind can be sensitive to connect better with Him.
I hope you deliberately come to a place of rest in 2019. God wants to reveal so many things to us but only in the place of rest.
