WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF? OVERCOMING THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

Few months ago, I lost a friend to cancer. From the moment the news got to me, I wasn’t myself for the next two weeks. I was psychologically affected. I had so many questions running through my mind.

How could this have happened to a young vibrant lady? Why is cancer just ruining people’s lives like this? What guarantee do I have that I’d live till old age?

The devil made serious attempt to mess with my mind. He brought pictures of me sitting before a doctor while he broke a tragic news about an illness that had no cure. He began to put in my mind thoughts of a life cut short, with unfulfilled dreams and aspirations.

I came face to face with the fear of death during that period. I have never had such attack on my mind as I did in those few weeks.

But there was one thing I didn’t do during that period. I didn’t just sit there and allow those thoughts to settle in my mind. The Word was always on my lips.

On my bed, while I walked down my street, at my place of work, I continually reminded myself of what the Word said about me. I laughed at the devil and reminded him that he was a defeated foe. He came at me several times in a day. I was ready for him.

Whether we like it or not, as long as we live in this corrupt world, the fiery darts of the devil will be thrown at us from different angles.

When we understand that we cannot be ignorant of the devices of the devil, we’ll learn to stand firm and keep our shield right in front of us.

What are you afraid of?

If the devil decides to play one of his tricks in your dreams, won’t we find you running helter skelter, crying from one Pastor to the other?

Haven’t we seen men push their spouses out of their home because one prophet said they were the reason for their lack of progress?

Different kind of fears distributed across the hearts of men.

You find men stealing funds for fear of hunger. You meet single sisters with an overwhelming fear of getting into their 40s unmarried and so they jump at the next available person, ignoring any warning signs.

Fear of rejection has crippled some believers and kept them below God’s expectations for their lives. What about the fear of people? The fear of being alone nko?

Yet fear was nailed to the cross. God’s Word emphatically states that, We have not been given the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7.

Fear brings torment.

I strongly believe that God’s Word can become real to us regardless of whatever challenges we may be faced with. Our eyes can be constantly fixed on Christ no matter what’s going on around us.

We must come to a point where like Abraham, we are fully persuaded that, what God has promised, he is able also to perform.

Overcoming the spirit of fear. Powerful ways to walk through life courageously.

The question is, How do we get to this point where we walk courageously even when the devil is doing all he can to make us cower?

What happens when we are faced with situations that challenge our confidence in God’s word? How do we give those fearful thoughts a hard kick and send them rolling in the dust, far away from our lives?

1. I have discovered that a constant revelation of God’s love is the hammer that breaks down the wall of fear in a person’s life. There is no fear in love, 1 John 4 tells us. But perfect love cast out fear and he who fears is not made perfect in love.

The reason we constantly give in to fear is because we really do not understand the intense love the father has for us. We must come into a constant comprehension of the power that comes with our position as sons in God’s kingdom.

Think of this for a moment. We are joint heirs with Christ and we are by reason of our position as sons seated far above principalities and powers.

May the Holy Spirit open our eyes to see beyond our feelings and experiences and to understand the immensity of the power at work in us.

This has been my prayer. That I may come to understand this power that raised Jesus from the dead which also dwells in me.

That I may see that when God gave up his only son for my sins, he poured out love beyond measure.

That my eyes may be flooded with light to see the devil defeated on the cross and how that by reason of the cross, he has spoiled principalities and powers and made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Will you at this moment ask the Lord for a revelation of the love of God towards you? Will you be opened to the Holy Spirit to make known to you the incredible greatness of the power you possess?

For us who have believed, we do not belong to a realm where fear dwells. Only by revelation can we come to a point of persuasion, a place whereby we completely trust the integrity of the Word.

2. Your tongue is not just there for decoration when it comes to spiritual warfare. Your words are a tool that need to be engaged.

Words are powerful. God’s Word is the neutralizer for every bomb the devil throws at us. Learn to speak the word. Open your mouth and talk! Confession is part of the Christian walk.

When you see fear or worrisome thoughts tormenting you in any area of your life, search out from the scriptures what the word says about you in that regards. Keep it on your lips and close to your heart.

20 scriptures on your identity with Christ

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken, we also believe, and therefore speak. 2 Corinthians 4:13.

3. Sieve what you listen to. There are some sermons that will build fear in your heart. In any place where the devil is given so much attention, you can be sure that fear will take enough room.

Listen to words that stir up your faith. Read books that drive you towards an understanding of God’s love. Dig deep into your new creation reality in Christ. Be careful what you allow into your mind. It can either cripple or build you up.

4. Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? When those attacks- the fiery darts- come, the devil desires to get your attention and make you panic. They are thrown into confusion when you begin to pray in the Spirit.

Pray in tongues a lot. Lay out those scriptures that addresses your fears and command attention in the realm of the Spirit.

Let me say this as I conclude. Satan is real. Demons are real. Spiritual Warfare is real. The defeat of Satan on the cross is real. That your mind is a battlefield is real.

It is suicidal for you as a believer to fold your hands and just let everything settle into your mind.

There is a place of exercising your authority in Christ. There is the place of confessing what the Word says about you and silencing your fears. There are situations where you laugh at the nonsense the devil thinks he is doing and rest in the finished works of Christ.

Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23.

Can we encourage each other with God’s promises?

1. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba Father. Romans 8:15.

2. Who his own self bare our sins in his body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes we are healed. 1 Peter 2:24.

3. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.

4. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of who shall I be afraid. Ps 27:1.

5. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:14,15.

6. Who then will condemn us? No one- for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, interceding for us. Romans 8:34.

7. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.

8. I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Jeremiah 29:11.
