Life. Sometimes, the ride is smooth and at other times we find ourselves at the bottom rung of the ladder and we wonder if we will ever see any visible progress.

Each day is saddled with its own challenges. There are unexpected circumstances, dreams hoped for, longings unreached and pains tugging at our hearts. Constantly we are faced with different situations, many of which we’d never in our wildest dreams have imagined would show up at our doorpost.

Two years ago, I went through a very difficult period in my life. I had issues with my Master program which was causing me so much frustration, I had goals and dreams I desperately wanted to achieve and then issues from my past sprung up and church wahala that almost drove me crazy.  The whole mata just tire me.

During that period I stayed away from social media for about a month or so but one evening, I decided to check out what was happening on Facebook and then to my greatest surprise, I saw my wall splattered with words of encouragement.

Only few friends knew the details of the challenges I was facing. My eyes widened as I scrolled down my timeline. Someone posted a poem that spoke directly to my heart, others wrote about how much I was a blessing to them. It was like a movement. I knew it wasn’t merely a man’s idea. It was God’s way of saying ‘I care deeply about you.’ That incident brought great encouragement to my soul.

Every now and then, I have had people sending messages to my inbox telling me how my articles greatly impacted their lives and the truth is, many times those messages came when I needed them the most.

This is the plain truth: In many ways God encourages our hearts in the weakest of our seasons. If we look deeply, we will see that he remind us of his presence in little ways. Will you take a moment to thank God for those reminders?

In another vein, God wants us to be sources of encouragements to others. Don’t hesitate to speak words buttered with joy and hope into the lives of your friends and those around you. If you sense God giving you a word for a friend, get right to sharing what God is placing in your heart. A word rightly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver, says the scriptures…Go ahead. Encourage that soul.

Let me shock you with this: There are certain situations where God will not send anyone to encourage you. It is possible that the people you thought would give a pat here or a hug there will completely abandon you…oh yes! It’s part of the training process.

Paul came to a point in his life when every body deserted him at the time when he faced one of the worst times in his life. I mean not even one person could encourage him. In his own words;

…Everybody abandoned me. May it not be counted against them. But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength. 2 Timothy 4:17 (NLT)

Similar experience with David at Ziklag.

…And David was greatly distressed, for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.. 1 Samuel 30:6.

God will bring you to a point where all you have is Him. It will be a true test of your devotion. This is why giving place to a deep intimacy with Christ must be paramount in our lives.

No wonder Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they may receive the spirit of wisdom in the knowledge of Christ. No wonder he spoke extensively on our identity with Christ. These are the impenetrable walls the devil would have to contend with when he comes with his strategies and arrows. How will you know that God is standing with you through those painful moments if you do not have an intimate relationship with Him?

The more you stay in God’s presence, the easier it becomes for your soul to receive strength to walk through any kind of storm.

When men say there is a casting down, He says, I will lift you up.

Can I be an encouragement to you this morning?

1. You are beautiful.

2.  You may not see things working the way you want now and you may be doubting whether your potentials will ever bring a bountiful harvest. Believe me when I say, God has prepared the harvest already. Keep working. Where you are right now is not your final destination. There is a sowing and a reaping season. You will reap if you do not faint.

3. I get, you’ve been crying for weeks because of something you did that you shouldn’t have done. You are wondering how stupid of you to have let down your guard. You have cried to God, yet you don’t feel forgiven.

God is asking me to remind you that you have an advocate, Jesus! He bore your sins on the cross. He has thrown your sins into the sea of forgetfulness. He wants to hear you stand steadfast in your faith in him by resisting the lies of the devil.

4. You see, God makes everything beautiful in His time. You don’t need to compete with anyone and you don’t have to give in to that pressure. All things are working for your good. When God finally brings out what he has prepared, you’ll be grateful you didn’t jump out ahead of Him. It’s worth waiting for God.

5. You are not alone.
